Data Engineer (Analytics & Data Platform) — Build the data foundation for better decisions at Refined
Location: Malmö, Sweden
If you’re the kind of data engineer who enjoys turning complex, real-world data into something trustworthy and useful — this is your next challenge.
Key points about the role at a glance
✅ Build the data foundation that powers decisions across Customer Success, Marketing, and Product
✅ Bridge the gap between business analytics and data engineering
✅ Own and evolve our analytics data platform
✅ Drive data quality, documentation, and adoption of self-serve analytics
Why this role matters, and why it might be your next move
Refined runs on data. Not as a buzzword, but as a daily tool for making smarter product and business decisions. The challenge is that data only becomes useful when it’s reliable, well modelled, and understandable to the people using it.
This role exists to make that happen.
You’ll help build and maintain Refined’s data platform and ensure we consistently get high-quality, user-friendly data out into the company. Your work will directly influence how teams prioritize, measure outcomes, and understand what’s working (and what isn’t), across the full customer lifecycle.
This role is ideal if you’re at a point in your career where you want to:
Own the “analytics layer” end-to-end - from ingestion and modelling to quality and stakeholder enablement
Turn business questions into clear definitions, metrics, and data products people actually trust
Improve the craft: testing, documentation, CI/CD, and good engineering habits applied to data
What you’ll do as our Data Engineer
In this role, you’ll provide tooling, frameworks, and high-quality data that enable data-informed decision making across Refined.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Develop and maintain Refined’s data platform for analytics using software best practices (version control, code review, CI/CD pipelines).
Design and build core business data models (especially dimensional models) that make analytics consistent and scalable.
Translate business needs into technical solutions — bridging stakeholders and data engineering with shared language and clear definitions.
Ensure data quality and reliability through testing, monitoring, and documentation, so datasets are trustworthy and reusable.
Advocate for data-informed workflows by enabling self-serve access, improving data literacy, and raising awareness across the company.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who enjoys combining analytical thinking with strong engineering habits and knowledge sharing. Smeone who can create data products that are both technically sound and genuinely useful. As well as be an advacate for data literacy within Refined.
We’re looking for:
SQL expertise (2–3 years): writing high-quality, maintainable SQL — ideally with dbt or similar tooling.
Data modelling (1–2 years): especially dimensional modelling and building models that reflect how the business works.
Python + development experience (1–2 years): comfortable building data tooling/pipelines, and working like a software engineer.
Strong communication: you can translate between business context and technical detail, and you enjoy collaborating with stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves
Experience coaching others, raising data competence, or leading adoption of shared ways of working
Familiarity with our stack: GCP, BigQuery, dlt, Looker
Infrastructure-as-code experience (we use Pulumi)
What success looks like
In 3 months: You understand the current data platform, key stakeholders, and the highest-impact analytics use cases. You’re shipping improvements and building trust.
In 6 months: You’ve delivered or significantly improved core business models, introduced stronger testing/documentation practices, and made data easier to use across teams.
In 12 months: You’re a trusted owner of Refined’s analytics data platform — shaping modelling standards, improving reliability, and driving a culture where teams default to data-informed decisions.
The people you’ll work with
You’ll collaborate across the company — with Product, Customer Success, Marketing, and Engineering — to make sure data is not only correct, but actually usable. You’ll work closely with the CFO connecting data and business insights.
