This position is not just about overseeing projects and timelines; it's about being at the heart of innovation, mentoring, and driving a culture that values continuous improvement and customer centricity. This role is key to making sure engineering is at the heart of what we do. They're all about doing things the right way, not just the quick way, and thinking about our product long-term instead of just churning out features.
Here, your leadership will directly shape the product and the team, making a visible impact.
Key responsibilities in a nutshell:
Team leadership and development: You'll nurture a collaborative and inclusive environment, guiding engineers in their careers through feedback and coaching, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a self-driven culture. By navigating complex conversations and decisions, you aim to focus on what's best for the team and the product, while emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and development.
OKRs collaboration: Working alongside Product Managers, you'll set and drive OKRs that reflect the organization's ambitions, ensuring the team's full engagement.
Delivery: You're responsible for the timely planning, execution, and delivery of new features, and helping the team to balance between speed and quality.
Technical strategy contribution: Your input will help shape our technical vision, aligning engineering strategies with broader business objectives.
Process improvement: A key part of your role will be to refine our engineering processes and methodologies, enhancing efficiency and quality.
Hiring and onboarding: Lead the recruitment and integration of new talent, matching technical skills with our unique team culture.
Customer centricity: Instill a mindset focused on delivering exceptional value to our customers.
Milestones in one year
After 30 days: You’re integrated into the team, and have a good understanding of what we’re building and more importantly, why we’re building it.
After 90 days: You’ve identified key initiatives to improve delivery, teamwork, and processes. You’ve gained familiarity with our tech stack, consisting of Node.js, Express, and Vue.js, and our ways of working.
After 360 days: You’ve provided actionable feedback on your team members’ strengths and development areas, contributed to our technical strategy, and kept the team focused on meeting the OKRs.
Why join Refined in this role?
So, are you ready for a career move that aligns with your desire for a new culture focused on learning, continuous improvement, ambitious goals, autonomy, and the well-being of every team member? Here, you'll have the opportunity to lead a skilled group of engineers in developing products that our customers love.
At Refined, we pride ourselves on organic growth and maintaining a flat hierarchy in a bootstrapped company. This means your voice is not just heard; it's valued. We're seeking leaders who are eager to contribute to and foster this unique culture.
If you're looking to re-engage with your career, tackle new challenges, and truly excel, Refined offers the perfect setting. You bring seniority and experience from your previous companies but crave the autonomy to use your knowledge creatively, influence product development directly, and contribute to open discussions without the constraints of hyper-growth or shareholder pressures.
Practicalities, benefits and salary
Work-life balance is built into how we operate, giving you the flexibility to enjoy life outside of work. We have flextime, flexible working hours and generous policies for new parents.
The salary in this role ranges between 60–75K SEK / 6000–7300 EUR depending on your experience. This role would be based either at our Malmö or Helsinki office.
Our work is built to be remote: alongside building strong in-person collaboration, our flexible work-from-home policy means that teams agree together how often to come into the office (usually 1-2 days a week).
